If you’re looking for something that is less specialized and has more of an overall application, the Panasonic Lumix DMC-LX5 is a great option. While this camera does lack jpeg processing abilities, you won’t be disappointed in the pictures you take. This camera comes with a 3 inch TFT LCD display and has 10.1 megapixel resolution. The LX5 is the follow up to the super successful DMC-LX3. Panasonic had to work hard to improve upon the LX3.
We’ve found the improvements are not massive. The sensor in the LX5 is only about 30% more sensitive than that of the LX3. Because of the LED back lighting, the LX5 has improved color and the LX5 LCD uses a higher index for color rendering. As far as digital pocket size cameras are concerned, Canon has one of the best reputations in the marketplace. When it comes to casual photography, this old workhouse is a fast favorite. Sure, you can find digital cameras with more robust features, and higher price tags, but it really all depends on your budget and what you need the camera for.
