Tracy is nameless in the dancing world when she tries out, but she is chosen for one of the dancing positions and against very long odds becomes a dancing star virtually overnight. Tracy is emboldened with this newfound status, & she makes a decision to utilise her celebrity status to make positive improvements to the television program. The primary motive for these positive improvements is related to race. Tracy wishes to racially unite the TV program, & as anybody can guess, she is confronted with a great deal of hostility.
Hairspray came to the West End in 2007, opening for previews at the Shaftesbury Theatre on October 11, before being unveiled to the public at its main opening on October 30, two thousand and seven. The production has had some huge name actors — Michael Ball takes one of the lead roles as Edna Turnblad, Tracy’s very own mother, delivering a splendid interpretation in this hard female character, whilst Mel Smith played joke shop property-owner Wilbur Turnblad, Tracy’s father. The original cast in the London West End also includes newcomer to the theatre arena, Leanne Jones, in the main character of Tracy.
Hairspray the theatre show has gained hundreds upbeat mentions from newspapers and show enthusiasts alike. I love the theatre show and wish they could stay on longer. Ben Ellis is very good as link and Leanne Jones as Tracey & Michael Ball, well they are all simply very good. The musical production of hairspray is unquestionably my favourite, it is optimistic & if you’re feeling a little gloomy then it is guaranteed to make you feel a whole lot happier. I give it a ten out of ten – I love it congratulations to everyone involved with it.
